Britney's VMA disaster

Britney Spears opened the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards last night with a performance of new single 'Gimme More', which has been widely panned by critics.
The troubled singer appeared in scant clothing and appeared to be miming out of sync to the track, in a routine many have described as lacklustre.

More successful was Rihanna, who won Monster Single of the Year and Video of the Year for 'Umbrella'.

The 19-year-old, who performed wearing a top hat and tails, said the awards were the "most important" of her pop career so far and was presented the gongs by Dr Dre.
