EMI halts CD copy protection
09/01/2007
EMI have announced they'll no longer be security protecting their CDs, after the anti-piracy measures proved problematic for customers trying to upload songs to their computers.
The record label, who've been in trouble in the past for not paying royalties to The Beatles, said they're assessing the system, known as Digital Rights Management (DRM).
It was hoped that DRM would prevent people from making illegal copies of albums, but instead it has prevented customers from uploading tracks onto their MP3 players.
"We haven't manufactured any new disks with content protection on them for the last few months," said a spokeswoman.
"It doesn't mean we've scrapped content protection but we're evaluating it."
