A Brief History of Kelly Rowland
As a founding member of the biggest-selling girl group ever, Kelly Rowland probably needs no introduction. But we'll giver her one anyway, it's only polite.
Though born in Atlanta, at the age of seven Kelly relocated to Houston, Texas, with her mother to escape her alcoholic and abusive father. It was here she joined friends Beyonce Knowles and LaTavia Roberson in a group called Girl's Tyme. Despite losing a TV talent competition, the group gained Beyonce's father as a manager after he quit his job to look after the group, and they began rehearsing in Beyonce's mum's hair salon!
With their name changed to Destiny's Child, the girls began performing and touring until they were signed to Columbia Records in 1997. Despite numerous line-up changes, Kelly and Beyonce went on to sell over 100 million albums, before amicably bringing the group's recording career to a close in 2006.
Kelly's first taste of solo life came when she sang on Nelly's Grammy-winning single 'Dilema'. This was quickly followed by her 2002 debut album 'Simply Deep', which featured the hit 'Stole'.
In 2007, Ms Rowland released her second album, 'Ms Kelly', which has been revamped and expanded for 2008 to feature the singles 'Broken' and 'Daylight'.
