Sugababes
interview

"I'd kill everyone in there"

Stop worrying about the financial collapse of the world because Sugababes are back with a new single that's naggingly familiar and an album rather brilliantly called 'Catfights And Spotlights'.

We spoke to Amelle (which is fine with us since she's our favourite) and she tried to explain why they're singing the Boots ad, what would cause her to kill a Big Brother contestant and what Keisha's secret talent might be...

Hello Amelle. Readers might be a bit confused as to how come your new single 'Girls' sounds like the song from the Boots advert. Can you explain?

This track came on the table about two and a half years ago and so we've had it for ages and we loved it, but we changed it up quite a bit and we rewrote all of the verses.
I can't pronounce the name of the man who originally sung it, to be totally honest with you [Ernie K Doe - fact fans]. But us releasing it coincides with Boots and their involvement with the charity White Ribbon Alliance, so that's great that we are working alongside that. Is that the question you just asked me, because I can't remember what you just said!

All we really want to know is will you be having a go at the Frosties advert next?

I totally get what you're saying because that was what was in our heads when we heard it. We were like, "we've heard that song on the Boots advert!" But this is a completely different version and it's a lot more - not sexed up - but it's right out there with a proper live band and everything. I like it and the opportunity to work with them and this charity as well. It's all good.

So we believe there was a song called 'Murder One' on the new album, but now isn't...

Yeah, 'Every Love Hurts' I think it's now called ['Every Heart Broken' - accuracy fans]. I still call it 'Murder One' to be honest. Yeah, basically the record company thought it was too... because of all the...

Say no more. We can't help noticing none of you are taking part in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Oh god. No, no, no! Heidi has always wanted to do that show. I think it would be a great laugh. I've never seen her do anything like that, to be honest, but I'm sure she would be good. I love the whole idea of it but I automatically assume the people on it must've run out of money, so I couldn't do it for that reason. Same with Big Brother, same with all of them. And to be honest, in Big Brother, I'd end up killing someone. I couldn't handle it in there. I'd kill everyone in there.

What would make you snap? Would it just be cleanliness issues?

Cleanliness, but not even that. It would be how everyone would be acting in there, like well over the top, and I couldn't handle that. I'd be like, "you're talking shit and you know it". They'd be playing up to the cameras. I'd be the grouchy one that everyone hates.

What's this we hear about the band having a range of German shoes?

Yeah, it's the Deichmann - it's this big European shoe brand and we've got a deal with them and we just advertised the shoe for them. We didn't design them. We picked the ones that we would most wear and that is the one that we are promoting.

If you did design a shoe, what would that shoe be like?

I'd love to do that. Definitely a heel on them. I'd love to design a nice pair of boots. Not too high, something you can wear shopping but you look classy like you've dressed up. But not too dressed up. It matches what you're wearing. That's what I'd love to make, for those average people out there, like me!

You should clearly take up shoe designing, or do you already have enough hobbies?

I do quite a lot of sport. I like my tennis and my basketball. I haven't played basketball in three years, since I joined the band actually. What else? Pool. I'm obsessed with pool. I used to hustle for money. Well not hustle, it was when I was at college. Oh, I watch a lot of cage fighting and boxing shows. I love it. Oh and golf actually. I have been playing a lot of golf recently...

Good grief, woman. How do you find the time? Do the others have any secret talents? We like to imagine Keisha plays the tuba.

Let's hope. That would be quite interesting. Or impressions...

We'd love to see her Frank Spencer. Thank you Amelle from Sugababes.
