Hello Jarvis, at this very moment you're at number five in the charts. How do you feel about that?
I think that's a good sign that maybe people are liking it.
Could be. So how come us Brits liked you before your fellow Americans?
You know, there isn't like a great reason for it. We met a lot of English at SXSW and we got a good vibe from everybody. Everybody from Europe seemed really pumped up, a lot more pumped up than American labels. So who are you going to hang out with, people that are not pumped up or people that are really pumped up?
Erm... the pumped up ones? So which is best: London or LA?
That's pretty much an impossible question! How can you compare them? I always have a tough time comparing things, you know; like movies or music or cities or anything, because every place has its cool shit about it. Right now, I'm having a blast here, but I'm sure when I go back to LA, I'll have a blast there too.
Where are you going in London to have this blast you mention?
Well, we lived in Notting Hill for a while so I know some cool places round there. For fun, go down to the Market Bar in Notting Hill and definitely say hi to Gavin! And just cruise around.
Hmm, 'cruise around' may have a different meaning in some parts of London. Where would the blast be found in LA?
Well number one - obviously go spend some time at the beach, get some rays there. There's a cool area called Echo Park, you should definitely check that out. Next, there's a great place called The Red Lion that everybody should go visit. It's kind of like a home away from home you know? It's a pub, a German pub full of cool people and hot waitresses and stuff like that!
We've read some good reviews of Iglu & Hartly and some bad reviews. Which do you believe?
I don't really care about what people write about us. I mean, people like the music - we have die-hard f**king supporters. We have a family built out here now, it's kind of like a community that's grown so much, and so I don't really give a shit. You know what, personally, I don't read anything in terms of press and all that. I don't have a computer or anything like that out here. But from what I'm gathering, it's kind of like you either love us or you hate us and that's cool also...It's all good.
Good point. What are the best and worst things about being on tour?
Best things? You never really have time to think about stuff; it's cool to be on the run, acting like a gang sometimes! So the best thing is probably just hanging out with the band and cruising out to meet new people. Worst thing is probably needing to do laundry all the time...
And our tour manager AJ snores like a mother f**ker. I mean, it sounds like he's dying. I want to post it on YouTube! Seriously, like AJ snoring mixed with some beat or something.
We'd dance to it. Finally, we have to ask you for the truth about your band name. We read that you called yourself after the first ship to transport cinnamon between Hawaii and England, but we've Googled it and nothing comes up.
It was from a history class in college that we were all taking and something came up like that. I mean we could have some of the details wrong but then we're always willing to supply details. I mean, it is just about how we all got together so it's good.
We're still none the wiser. Thank you Jarvis from Iglu & Hartly
