It doesn't matter that 'Foundations' has been in the charts forever, when Kate Nash starts plonking out her one and only Top Ten on her little piano, there is a proper goosebump moment across Weston Super-Mare. It is a genuinely amazing pop record and love it or hate it, her "You said I must eat so many lemons" lyric has been embraced by modern pop fans. Kate also plays her next new single and we’d like to tell you what it was called but someone blew a klaxon behind our head so we missed what she said. It was very good though and was about having skin and also about a nice night out. Lovely.

By the time Pigeon Detectives take to the stage, they are sharing the limelight with Deano, Chelsea and the one who sweeps the streets off 'Eastenders', who are moving through the crowd pretending they hate being mobbed and having their photos taken. We don’t have a great deal to say about the Pigeon Detectives, and not because we were following soap actors around, but because while their 'couldn't care less' attitude might go down well at your local Barfly, T4 On The Beach is a more about fun and sun. 'Take You Back' and 'I'm Not Sorry' are sung, but no one gets too worked up about it.

Meanwhile, at the 4music stage, The Twang show the crowds how indie is done properly, with a amazing but brief set - 'Either Way', the working class anthem for those with too much testosterone to buy into 'Foundations'.

Next up are the deservedly hyped Hadouken! whose lightshow is wasted in the blazing sun and in the interest of T4's carbon footprint should probably have been dimmed a bit, but we are here for the music not to save the planet. Just don't tell Bono.

We know it is only mere minutes away from Just Jack's arrival on stage because all around us, people are donning the complimentary star-shaped 'Starz In Their Eyes' sunglasses. Either that or we've walked into an Elton John-themed beach bash. Oh well, stranger things have happened at sea. Arf. Anyway, Just Jack - he seems to bring a little bit of sunshine with him wherever he goes. Not least to this Weston crowd who shake their things just as much to new song 'No Time' (which sounds a bit like 'Starz In Their Eyes' slowed down and with different words), as they do to the aforementioned starry song that has made his name. Thanks, Jack.

The last time we saw Manic Street Preachers' singer James Dean Bradfield, he was eating a pie and walking around the V site. What a life he leads! But here he is now with the band he’s been with for over 20 years. The thing we like about the Manics is that even though the young crowd are following the roving cameras more than they are the band playing on stage, they still give a jolly good performance, peppering recent hits 'Your Love Alone Is Not Enough' and new single 'Autumn Song' with leaps that Busted (RIP) would be proud of. 'You Stole The Sun' – "I hope this isn't true of today," chimes James - and 'Design For Life' complete the trio's four-song set. A happy snapshot of the Manics. Yoink.

While most of her fellow pop stars have slunk on stage and hidden behind their instruments, the incredibly lovely Sophie Ellis-Bextor strolls on, tells everyone they look nice, sings 'I Do Like To Be Besides The Seaside' and then tells us she wants to ride a donkey. We. Love. Her. Up first is 'The Sun's On Us'. It's not on us. But we forgive her because she sings so beautifully and dances far better in real life than she ever has in her videos. The dancing around the stage continues for 'Murder On The Dancefloor' which is a dizzying mix of high heels, pant flashing (FYI - shorts dresses and gusts of wind aren't a good combo) and sassiness. We've said it before, we'll say it again… We. Love. Her.
