T4 On The Beach
Frank!
Welcome to our T4 On The Beach blog!

All the T4OTB news, as it happens...

12:00pm

We are literally OFF.

Consider us warmed up and ready to, if not rock, then have a very nice day on the beach. It's barely past midday and already we've seen teens, tears and bunny ears. Not ours, we hasten to add. And we've not seen Grace from Big Brother 'as yet', but when we do, there is a pint of water with her name on it.

Frank are up first, and have no doubt been involved in some backstage bickering over boyfriends, rehearsals and missing 'plectra'. Last time we saw Frank they were playing a tiny basement club, but that may not have been a real gig because it was on the telly.

The four girls look very lovely indeed and are really rather good, perhaps more good than we expected, despite some not-so-subtle plugs for their album and website inbetween the tunes. They look lovely, Lauren in particular - whose 'spray on' shorts seem to be disappearing into her tiny bottom. Even though 'Turn It up' seems to go on a bit, 'I'm Not Shy On Mondays' and 'Never Left A Girl' are somewhat snappier and very good indeed.

So well done Frank. wonder what japes they'll get up to on the bus back to their flat in London?

All American Rejects!
12:14pm

Without any dicking around, All American Rejects are up next, and while the singer of Frank is really rather beautiful, AAR's frontman is rather more dashing. One good looking American rock singer plus a gazillion teenage girls equals quite of screamage, even if the band's chart position for 'Move Along' suggests that this crowd might not be 100% sure who they are listening to.

Using some rather colourful language (THIS IS A FAMILY DAY OUT), All American Rejects trot through 'Night Drive', new single 'Dirty Little Secret' and The Best Rock Song Of The New Millennium, 'Move Along'. We must admit to feeling some goosebumps during this one, but this might be the icey wind blasting in off the sea. The sun has not got his hat on as yet. Maybe he hasn't decided which one to wear.

Automatic
12:29pm

What's that coming over the big sandy hill? Is it a monster? Is it a big The Automatic shaped monster? Oh yes it is! But rather than being big and scary, the young Welshies prove themselves to be very pleasant boys who treat the increasingly excitable crowd to their selection of indie-pop musical delights.

'Monster' creates a mass sing-and-clap-along before the band have a little skit about the stage and leap around the place with so much energy that we're a wee bit breathless on their behalf. PLUS! The singer/bassist, who looks like the younger brother of Tom from Keane, gives his bass away to a fan. Straight onto eBay, thank you very much.

Lily!
12:43pm

Another person who's all young and shiny is sparkling singing lady Lily Allen who looks like a blushing golden bride in her big netted dress. Oh we do like a popstar who makes an effort for us. But can Lily out-sparkle her fancy frock? Yes she can! Despite there not being any of the other acts' 'clappy' bits in Lily's repertoire, the audience lap up the young star's sun-drenched pop goodies 'LDN' and 'Smile'. Hooray to Lily and her gold dress!

But who's that in the crowd looking glam with her pink hoodie and hint of red in her hair? Could it be Bonner of BB7 fame? OMG IT IS!!!11! We wonder what she'll make of the next act, Basement Jaxx? We're waiting with baited breath, readers...

Basement Jaxx
1:01pm

Hello, Basement Jaxx.

If there is anyone able to coax the sun out from behind the clouds, perhaps it will be Basement Jaxx. And if coaxing it out doesn't work, perhaps the sun will be surprised into making an appearance with all the noise of the two singers bouncing around on stage. Between the pair of them, they must be carrying about 50 kilos of boob. Just as well they are wearing highnecked blouses or those things would escape and probably make a bid for freedom and try to swim to Ireland.

The Basement Jaxx are obviously very good at music. Geography however, is not their strength. "Where are we?" The singers ask each other. "Is it Brighton? Is it Bournemouth? Plymouth, it must be Plymouth." (Can you possibly guess where this might be going viewers?) "Weston Super Mare?" they ask. Cue enormous cheer and 'Good Luck'. Hurrah for Basement Jaxx, hurrah to the ladies and hurrah to their whopping shirt stuffers.

We spotted Bonner from Big Brother in the crowd not so long ago, but we can't find her now. Wherever she is, we are sure she is having a lovely day out.

Also in the crowd are the cast of Shipwrecked: Battle Of The Islands. Which we loved. However, we can't remember who we liked on the show, any of their names or who was a Tiger and who was a Shark. Fame - a fickle mistress.

Neyo!
1:22pm

We missed Ne*Yo unfortunately - the man with the burgers came around and we had to make a choice. But everything is quite loud, so round the back near the bins, we could still hear 'So Sick' and 'Sexy Love' over the sound of our own chomping.

McFly!
1:33pm

McFly, however, we didn't miss. You will be glad to hear. They were very good. Tom, dare we say it, is looking rather svelte. He could tame down the gurning, but if this is a facial tick then we apologise and take that back. Sorry Tom, if you've got a tick.

He does a lot of bouncing around, so perhaps that's where all the puppy-fat has gone. He must have a trampette at home.

The movie gets a mention immediately after the first song, 'Obviously'. Somewhere backstage, a PR would be marking a clipboard with a great big 'tick'. They do 'Please, Please', which no one knows, 'It's All About You' and 'Five Colours In Her Hair', although Dougie and Danny nearly don't make it though the set because they look a bit puffed and collapse on the floor. Perhaps their warm up should have involved more rest and less time hanging around the Slashmusic tent smoking Marlboros.

Still, they are young. By the end McFly are playing so loud the floor is shaking. Hopefully this is McFly's doing and not something burrowing up. An enormous badger or mole would be a worry.

FYI: Today's local paper has run with the headline 'Pop Invasion'. This is true even down in the town centre which is rocking to the sounds of 'Moving On Up' by M People.

PCD!
1:50pm

Beep! Is that our 'cell' being 'blown up' or is it the Pussycat Dolls strutting on the stage to their hit of the same 'sound'? Oh it's the PCDs, we should have known - only our mum ever texts us these days.

Anyway the all singing* all strutting PCDs wiggle through 'Beep' with just tiny scraps of material and towering clodhoppers to keep them warm. Brrr, we do hope Nana PCD knits them something warm next Christmas, we don't want them to catch colds. Some people who we reckon are positively toasty are the boys from Hollyoaks dancing around to 'Don't Cha'. Oh what larks!

*Apart from the five who don't sing.

Busta Rhymes!
2:04pm

Readers, let this be a lesson to you - never distrust a slurring sunburnt man. Sometimes they tell the truth - one told us that Busta Rhymes was going to play and we didn't believe him. But there he is! With his pal, like two giant baked beans in matching orange t-shirts. Pinch us very hard on the arm.

The 'boys' get down to business and bang their way through 'Touch It'. We wonder what they want us to touch. We hope it's not anything icky. While we ponder this Busta takes us back to '97 with 'Fired Up'. Well done Mr Rhymes.

Zutons!
2:21pm

We can't think of anything that 'rhymes' with The Zutons [You're fired - Ed] but we won't hold that against them. We welcome their brand of scouse oompa indie with two overstretched arms, and not just because lovely saxophonist Abi looks all lovely in her smock dress, but also because we bet our mate that the lead singer would squint and pull a 'toilet face' through their performance, and he does! But he really needn't have because they are ace. 'Why Won't You Give Me Your Love' is a clapalong stompfest and we even catch Max and OB of 'Oaks fame loving it and taking pictures of the band.
