It's Friday and Aussies Pendulum move and shake a crowded NME/Radio 1 tent. Meanwhile in the Festival Republic tent Glasvegas have a captivated crowd raising the roof in a raucous sing-a-long.
'Metal Up Your Ass' it says on Lars Ulrich's drum skins and they ain't kidding. Metallica rip through a blistering set with sneak previews from new album 'Death Magnetic' alongside classics including 'Enter Sandman' and 'Master of Puppets'. There are flame throwers, fireworks and they rock hard.
Saturday afternoon and Dizzee Rascal is winning over the main stage crowd. "Wanna hear some Old Skool?"…well if you insist.
MGMT's sound suits the weather and a full NME/Radio 1 tent seem to agree. We all know why we're here though and only Queens of the Stone Age can set the mood. And after tearing the festival apart Josh Homme leaves the stage primed for headliners Rage Against the Machine.
No 'Guantanamo' style orange boiler suits tonight, but RATM immediately cause a stir with 'Testify'. The crowd rush forward for 'Bombtrack' and force the band to stop playing completely to stop the crush. "A few steps back," pleads Zack de la Rocha and a willing crowd are rewarded when the band launch back into 'Bombtrack'. By 'Killing in the Name' it’s a field full of ear-to-ear grins.
Come Sunday and the sun is out again for some of the best sets of the weekend from Foals and Justice in the NME/Radio 1 tent. We are Scientists are on the main stage, but the best is yet to come.
Bloc Party are greeted with a roar and singer Kele has some news, "This is the last time you'll see us here for a while…" uh-oh. "Hopefully next time you'll see us we’ll be headlining." Oh, that's okay then. Their set includes tracks from new album 'Intimacy' as well as crowd pleasers 'So Here We Are' and 'Helicopter' to close.
This just leaves The Killers to close a great weekend in style. "You have beautiful voices, Leeds!" Why Brandon, you silver tongued devil. Gold fireworks rain down from the roof for 'When You Were Young' and showers down for an epic version of 'All These Things That I’ve Done'. Headliners don’t get more stylish than this.
