Paul Anka: he rocks, he swings
Listening party

Paul Anka!

Canadian born former teen-idol Paul Anka had his first hit, 'Diana', 48 years ago. Generally speaking, we can't remember what happened 48 minutes ago, so we tend to find that kind of thing fairly impressive.

Anyhow, he's a pro, is Anka, and he thought it would be a great idea to record an album of jazz and swing cover versions of tracks like, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', 'Wonderwall' and, almost unbelievably, Van Halen's 'Jump'...

... We know, we couldn't quite get our heads around it at first either - you should see the emails we traded when the album first arrived at Slashmusic towers - but, somehow, over time, Anka's easy-swinging versions began to gnaw at our brains and we gave in.

Now it's your turn. We recommend you start with Anka's version of Pet Shop Boys' 'It's A Sin', flick back to 'Everybody Hurts' then hammer forward to 'The Lovecats'. Then do the whole thing in one creamy, indulgent bite.

Beware, however, of 'Eye Of The Tiger'. Really, do.

The album's not out for a a few weeks yet, but why wait when we have the whole album for you to listen to right now?

Enjoy, baby.

And when you have enjoyed, have a listen to this recording of a rather less chilled-out sounding Anka ripping into his band from a couple of years ago...

Hurrah!
