Lorraine!
Lorraine on my window

We have fallen so hard for Lorraine that it’s actually a little bit embarrassing. When their name is mentioned, some of us blush slightly and start to simper like awe-struck 9 year olds confronted by a talking puppy wiv a cute wikkle button nose.

Of course, not everyone agrees, but then, in real life, not everyone is as clever as everyone else, are they...

... So anyway, Lorraine are from Bergen in Norway – some other groups come from there, but let’s not clog up our pretty little heads with them – and they love Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, New Order and, you know, all that lot.

They love the smell of coffee and hot cotton. They are sort of - sort of - related to McFly. They are Just Indie Enough to have guitars on their records and Just Pop Enough to have realised they don’t actually need a drummer.

Have a listen to their new double A-side, 'I Feel It' / 'Saved'. It's on Genepool records and it's bloody great.

In fact, why don’t you buy it and then you could come and meet us at The Ram and we could, like, sit around talking about how brilliant they are?

Hello Lorraine. We think you’re bloody great.
Thanks Slashmusic!

That’s OK. Now, to be a really great group, you have to have different personalities that are easily identifiable. Do you have those?
Sure. We are very different people, but we compliment each other well. Anders is The Quiet One with a strong sense of justice. He’s logical and funny. Paul is The In Control One. He’s quite serious. I, Ole, am the Hysterical One. I’m always talking. But we’re all very nice! We don’t hurt people. Or animals.

Great. Why are you called Lorraine?
We got the idea from ‘Back To The Future’. Michael J Fox’s mum is called Lorraine.

So you’re kind of related to McFly?
Yeah, we’re sort of their cousins! That movie captures us well as we’re a bit 1985 and we’re a bit 2020. We keep going back and we keep moving forward. We’re like everything you have and everything you have never heard.

What is your favourite smell?
I love these questions! I have loads of favourite smells! One of the best smells ever is a mug of fresh ground coffee on a Friday afternoon. When the first drops of water hit that coffee – it’s a really great smell. The other one is when I’ve just pressed my shirt and it’s still warm and it couldn’t be any cleaner. That hot cotton smell. I love that too.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever found in a hedge?
Does it have to be a hedge?

Is there somewhere else you’ve found something good?
Like what?

Like a tree?
I’ve never found anything in a tree, no.

Have you ever found anything in a hole in the ground?
You know what, I’ve never found anything ever.

OK, well, better luck in the future!
Thanks!

Have you ever been scared by a horse?
No, but I have been knocked over by a goat.

That’s close enough. What happened?
I was about 9 and one ran me over. I’m not scarred by it – it wasn’t that big a goat.

Have you ever wished you were a woman?
Never wished, not physically wished, but I have thought about it. For my own filthy pleasure? No. I’ve wondered, like Madonna puts it, what it feels like for a girl!

What will God say when you arrive in heaven?
About bloody time!

What body part could you happily live without?
My mind!

What’s the filthiest thing you’ve ever done?
I can’t tell you.

Can you hint?
I was alone. I had a phone. That’s it.

Did you put it up your bottom?
No!

What three people would you have at your dream dinner party?
Jesus. Hitler. Marilyn Monroe. It would be interesting.

What’s the most revolting thing you’ve ever put in your mouth?
Ammonia. I drank it – I’m only just back from the hospital – I sleepwalk a lot and I ended up drinking this ammonia. I was all burnt up inside.

Do aliens exist?
Of course! They’re everywhere. They’re watching us now from inside our minds.

Of course they are! Thank you, Lorraine!
No, Slashmusic. Thank you.

Lorraine play The Metro in London on Tuesday September 27, and yes – we will be there.
