Hello, Sara, have you ever been in a band?
Have I ever been in a band? Ha ha, no. I would have loved to have been in one and played the guitar though. That would have been really cool. Although if you play drums you get lovely toned upper arms. That's shallow, but true. We had Lightspeed Champion on the other night and he had a really cute, pretty drummer – she was a really sexy drumming girl!
We look forward to seeing her. Let's go back a few years, whose posters did you have on your wall as a teenager?
When I was a very young teen, I used to have Wham! and then I progressed to Bros. Very cool. I used to really love George Michael and be quite obsessed with him but then I got older and had grown out of having pop posters on my wall by the time New Kids on the Block became popular. But throughout the entire time of me having pop bands on my wall, there were always posters of horses as well, from 'My Pony' magazine or 'Horse and Pony'. I used to have posters of them galloping through fields next to Luke Goss!
What a place to be. What's the last album you bought?
The Hoosiers and The Young Knives because we had them on the show. The Young Knives was a fib actually because that was an album sampler I 'borrowed'. I really liked the Hoosiers' one because while the singles were big, boppy, poppy worm-into-your-ears songs, the album is really nice. It's got some lovely slow melodies, really nice and haunting. They're good chaps too, really witty and fun to interview.
Have they been your favourite guests so far?
Well, the thing with the show is that I end up with a new favourite band every week if I get on with them. If it's music I like a lot or have played a lot, they become my new favourite. Or even if they were really cool. Duffy was just really great to get on with. She’s a really sweet girl but she totally had her wits about her. She's not the naïve little poppet from Wales that she’s painted as. But at the same time she's a bit wide-eyed with it all. But then she gets on stage and just belts out these songs!
Is it very showbizzy backstage?
It is very grotty and there's one loo next to the green room and it gets blocked pretty quick, but there's a lot of history at KOKO. It's kind of a red, womb-like cavern of history and little worm holes. Backstage is pretty comfy with huge leather sofas where everyone watches because it’s right next to the stage and you can see what's going on. There are also lots of crisps and chocolate and Penguin bars. The works!
Sounds lovely, thanks Sara!
