Throughout November and December, 4unsigned teamed up with Hollyoaks to search for the best new music and unsigned bands. Hundreds entered, all hoping for the chance to appear live on the Hollyoaks TV show.

Many hours of listening later, 4Music brings you the final 25 of those in the running to play live in the hallowed streets of Chester...


Beatbullyz
Sweet sounding hip-hop from a London trio. Their track 'Keyz To Life' rivals Just Jack's 'Starz In Their Eyes' as one of the year's greatest commercial rap tunes (and best songz to have a 'z' in them). The uplifting sounds of the urban British music scene.

Billy Jon
A lovelorn balladeer in the style of Daniel Powter or Paolo Nutini, Billy Jon specializes in a bright, optimistic acoustic style which suggests a huge future healing the hearts of radio listeners across the country.

Bo Pepper
Hiding behind their puppet mascot, Bo Pepper are a female-fronted indie band with an almost famous singer who has worked with some of the biggest names in music. The bitter pop sounds of Bo Pepper's 'Buses' suits the lives of the Chester ladies perfectly.

Broadcast 2000
Hiding behind Broadcast 2000 is singer-songwriter Joe Steer, a Devon-born musician whose music treads a line between the bouncy and the bleak, with summery influences from the likes of Jack Johnson and the thoughtfulness of Thom Yorke evident in his recordings.

Dan Scotty
A one-man electronic-emo machine, Dan Scotty is a hugely talented singer, songwriter and producer from Worcester who mixes techno with rock to create sweet acoustic electronica which will strike a chord with every lonesome teen - in Chester and beyond.

Darlings Of The Split Screen
Rivalling indie darlings Hot Chip with an alternative electronic sound, Darlings Of The Split Screen are unchallenged for the most danceable band on the shortlist, with their amazing 'We Are The Same' sure to shake up the clubbers on the streets of Hollyoaks.

Educated Animals
Fans of glow-sticks and guitars, Brighton-based Educated Animals are the most relentlessly energetic guitar bands on the shortlist. A band to file alongside Klaxons and Bloc Party, Educated Animals call out to Chester's fluorescent adolescents.

Emma Dunlop
With a voice far beyond her 18 years, Emma Dunlop sings with the same striking sincerity and raw emotion of her influences: Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush. An affirming singer-songwriter with a mind full of the troubles of teenage life.

Fox Cubs
Like a younger, more energetic Killers (and without the moustaches), Fox Cubs make music so enormous sounding that to look at these five skinny teens from Reading you wouldn't think it was possible. 'Beasts Of England' rivals some of the best in British indie pop.

Hey Molly
Hey Molly are a well connected four piece from Devonshire who count Muse, Jack Penate and The Automatic among the bands they have previously played with. They take on Arctic Monkeys with their spiky guitar tracks which they claim "Johnny Borrell wished he had in him."

Jackie Bad
The Oasis influence in Jackie Bad is obvious – not since the legendary Manchester band made their debut on the music scene did a band hit the ground running with such velocity. Jackie Bad hold their own against current indie bad-lads Kasabian with their own style and swagger, throwing some stadium rock influences into the mix for good measure.

The Jamestown Union
Having played at this year's North By North East festival in Toronto, The Jamestown Union add some international appeal to the shortlist – although they actually hail from the very British town of Brighton. Support has also come from the knowledgeable music types at Radio 2.

The Kasinos
A young six piece who met at Bath University, The Kasinos mix soul and indie on their distinctive rock-edged jazz sound, and with powerful vocals from singer Stacey, their life-affirming sounds set the scene for the lighter days of Hollyoaks.

Kate Cassidy
The British answer to Alanis Morissette, Kate spent four years writing and recording in New York with some of the biggest names in the industry but found herself trapped in country music when her heart lay with rock - her music a collection of sleek and superb female anthems.

Loose Baby Charlotte
Summer sounding guitar pop from a band who have been together for less than 12 months but with talents that mask their short lifespan. The Brit-Pop influences of The Bluetone and Shed Seven are obvious on the brilliantly breezy 'No Elvis'.

Love Ends Disaster
Space aged indie with heads in the clouds rather than feet trudging the pavement, Love Ends Disaster mix optimistic futuristic production with the guys and guitars tradition, resulting in soaring indie pop which displays ample evidence of the David Bowie influences.

Million Pound Giveaway
The Feeling and The Hoosiers have made it acceptable for guitar bands to smile again, and Million Pound Giveaway are the most chipper on the shortlist, with a pounding pop sound so cheery it makes McFly look like a group of grumpy teenagers.

Night Parade
Having already supported one of 2007's new indie heroes, The Wombats, Night Parade bring their well-connected credibility to the 4unsigned and Hollyoaks shortlist with a simple yet sublime guitar pop sound.

Skyline Heroes
Mixing the glamour of US emo heroes Panic! At The Disco with a very British sense of rebellion, this Isle of Wight five piece represent the aggressive side of 4unsigned and the sound of a disgruntled youth in the UK today.

The Dirty Looks
Welsh five piece The Dirty Looks mix classic rock sounds with modern indie influences – the results being timeless alternative rock from the streets of Cardiff. "Heartfelt melodies that grab you by the balls" says Greg of the band – and who are we to argue?

The Layfields
Just finding their feet in the music business, The Layfields have been together for a mere matter of months but have already forged a strong and distinctive sound which is gaining them fans and acclaim with every gig they play around their home town of York – how will Chester take to the sounds of this fearsome fourpiece?

The Rumur
With a deep ska influence in their ridiculously energetic sound, The Rumur hail from the sleepy coastal town of Torbay with a teenage sound that belies their home's peaceful reputation. The Rumur are sure to kick up some dust in Hollyoaks with their south coast sounds.

The Strands
Bringing vintage rock to Hull, The Strands stands up for the lads of Chester with their hard rocking influences, referencing the likes of music greats such as Oasis, The Who and Led Zeppelin. Their dirty rock sound isn't for the glamorous Hollyoaks girls.

Vote Show Pony
Sharp modern electronica with a nod to seventies punk and eighties pop, Vote Show Pony add a little style to the substance on the Hollyoaks shortlist. Funky, fashionable and full of fun, this female fronted foursome are set to bring a little style to Hollyoaks.

Will Tudor
A 20-year-old acoustic singer-songwriter from the Midlands, Will Tudor represents the softer side of 4unsigned. "My music is sentimental," he says, "but everyone needs a little love sometimes." Will is sure to tug on the heartstrings of the Hollyoaks cast.
