Norman Jay helped create a new era in British music. Born in Notting Hill to West Indian parents, his influences include R&B artists coming out of late 60s black America - Sly Stone, Aretha Franklyn and James Brown.

More about Norman Jay
Co-founder of Kiss FM in 1985, he later set up, with his brother, the Good Times set at Notting Hill Carnival. He launched the record label Talkin Loud with Gilles Peterson, and is a regular DJ on BBC London.
He's also famous for wearing funky hats and owning an array of Raleigh Chopper bikes!
In 2002, he was awarded the MBE in the Queen's honour's list 2002 for services to music.
