On patrol along Iraq's wild west frontier. A special report from Lindsey Hilsum on America's unseen battle with the desert insurgents.
We're used to daily horror stories from Iraq - news of suicide bombings and shootings in the main cities reach our screens every night.
But in the remote regions, another battle is going on, which is rarely reported. In the far West, American troops have been fighting for months to stop foreign fighters getting into the country across the border.
Our International Editor Lindsey Hilsum has been embedded with the 3rd Battalion of the 6th marines, based in Al Qaim on the Syrian border. She spent time with marine units in forward bases, that were established a month ago after they drove out Islamist fighters from both Iraq and other Muslim countries
