Karzan Sherabayani goes back to Iraq for More 4 News to confront the Kurdish man who betrayed him to Saddam's regime.
20 March 2006
It marks the third anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq.
The military operation was supposed to be swift, with American-led forces treated as liberators.
Three years later the country has held elections - but hopes of peaceful transition are fading.
The Iraq Body Count, a campaign group run by academics and peace activists, says between 33,679 -37,795 civilians have been killed since 2003.
The country's infrastructure is also suffering. Water, electricity and sewage services are all operating at below pre-war levels. Some Iraqis believe life was better under Saddam Hussein.
But Karzan Sherabayani's story is a stark reminder of that brutal regime. At 14, he was tortured because he was falsely accused of belonging to a Kurdish underground movement.
After 25 years in exile, Karzan has returned to his homeland and confronts the man who betrayed him to Saddam's regime.
