VideoPlus+ numbers for analogue channels 1 to 5: include the channel number.

Digital channels: the channel number is not included in the Video Plus number and it has to be entered manually (just the once in the case of a "smart" recorder). The digibox is set manually to the correct channel in advance, and recording will start and end only at the times programmed into the VideoPlus+ number and will not adjust if the schedule start times move (there is no PDC).

Some "smart" recorders will recognise that the VideoPlus+ number is for a digital channel and if "taught" will automatically switch the recorder input between the analogue aerial and SCART inputs as appropriate, otherwise the recorder input has to be manually set in advance as well.

For digital channels, there is an alternative to VideoPlus+: some recorders can use the EPG to start and stop recordings, and some channels real-time-update the EPG to the actual rather than planned transmission times.

[Analogue channels may have PDC information, which enables the recording to start at the actual transmission time rather than the planned time, which when received by a PDC equipped recorder is used in conjunction with VideoPlus+, but the two are quite separate].
