
About Tom Hennigan
Consultant colorectal surgeon at the Princess Royal University Hospital (NHS) in Farnborough, Kent and at Chelsfield Park Hospital (PP) and The Sloane Hospital (PP).
He is also the lead clinical for colorectal surgery at the PRUH and the chairman of the South East London Colorectal Cancer Network.
Education and training
- Was born and was educated in Sheffield;
- Trained in medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne qualifying in 1981;
- Basic surgical training was in the hospitals in and around Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead;
- Did a period of research on novel methods of treat liver spread from bowel cancer at Charing Cross Hospital in London. This was awarded the Norman Plummer Prize;
- Higher surgical training at Charing Cross Hospital, Kingston Hospital, Roehamptom Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. During this training period he published about 20 papers about general and intestinal surgery, one being award the Alan Edwards Prize from the Royal Society of Medicine.
