Gunther von Hagen's Body Appeal
Mon 19 June 2006 9pm
Controversial German anatomist, Gunther von Hagens, hits the campaign trail on a mission to recruit body donors for the British Government.
UK medical schools are in crisis with numbers of people offering to donate their bodies to medical science at an all-time low.
Von Hagens takes to the road on a big red bus with his famous plastinates in tow and Kitchener style banners declaring Your Country Needs You.
With him on the battle bus is an army of medical students, determined to persuade the British public to sign up.
Presenter and psychologist Dr John Marsden joins Gunther and the medical students to dig deeper into the British psyche and find out why the number of body donors has dropped so dramatically. What do we imagine happens to our bodies after we've donated them? What is there to be afraid of when we're already dead? Have the recent scandals like Alder Hey put people off? Or is it simply that people don't know how to go about it?
