The young award-winning film maker Alexander Rostorguyev takes the viewer into the harsh realities of the lives of Vanya and Julia, one disowned by his family, the other abused and pimped by her own family since childhood.

This is the world of modern Russia far from the oil wealth of Moscow and the moneyed Oligarchs that fill the press.

This is the world of those left behind, people who have seen little of benefits of 'democracy' and 'capitalism'; a people whose world has disintegrated as the securities of the old Soviet Union have crumbled around them.
