About episode 3
Alaina Hardy, 35, used to be a boy called Jon. But she says: "I've identified as a girl as long as I can remember. Everyone was saying 'you're a boy', but I was sneaking on girls' clothes."
Malinda Chadwick was born John Chadwick. She remembers working in the garden with her grandmother at age 14.
"She had a big floppy hat on and I thought to myself, 'this is what I want, that's my dream, the big floppy hat, out in the garden'." Now aged 54, after the breakdown of a 28-year marriage, Malinda is ready to become who she really is.
Marci Bowers, MD, the surgeon, used to be man. She is well aware of the problems, physical and emotional, of 'transitioning'. And although she is a specialist in her field, each sex change operation presents its own set of challenges.
