About the Freedom of Information Act
3.1 Publication Schemes
Under the Act, public authorities have to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme. Channel 4's publication scheme specifies the information we routinely make available to the public and how it can be viewed. Before you make a request for information, please look at our publication scheme as the information you want may be there.

3.2 How to obtain information listed in the scheme
Some of the information in the publication scheme is available electronically and can be downloaded from the sites listed in the scheme. If the information you need is not available online, you can request information published under the scheme by letter or by email.

3.3 Information about programmes and commissioning
Additional information about Channel 4 that is not included in the scheme, particularly relating to programmes, may be available through our main website www.channel4.com

If you have a question about one of our programmes, your request will not be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act, but our Viewer Enquiries team will try to help you - contact us here

3.4 How to obtain information which is not listed in the publication scheme
Information which is not listed in the publication scheme can be requested under the Act in writing, by sending your name, address and details of the information you require to:

3.5 Exemptions
Channel 4 has the right to withhold information requested where this information fits the terms of one or more of the exemptions set out in the Act. For example, the information may be exempt because it is confidential or commercially sensitive. You can find out more information about the exemptions and the way in which they are applied at informationcommissioner.gov.uk or by reading the Act online at hmso.gov.uk

3.6 Fees charged for information
Whilst Channel 4 will not usually charge a fee for an information request, it reserves the right to do so if the retrieval and research costs are likely to be significant. If we consider that it is appropriate to charge a fee, we will notfiy you in advance of carrying out any work to process your request.

3.7 Responsibilities
The Corporation Secretary is responsible for our publication scheme.
The FM Archives team are responsible for the maintenance of our publication scheme.
The New Media Department is responsible for the running of our web site.

3.8 Complaints
If you are unhappy with help given by Channel 4 to access the information listed within the publication scheme, please contact:

In accordance with our internal complaints procedure, we will then carry out a full review of your request for information and reconsider the reasons why we are unable to disclose the information you requested. This review will be undertaken by someone senior to the person who took the original decision where it is reasonably practical to do so.
