Walking to work
Your planet needs you! In the global attempt to reduce carbon emissions and thwart rising temperatures we all need to do our bit. Estimates suggest that if each of us were to leave the car on the drive for just one day per week, we could collectively reduce 4,000,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide pumped into the air.

Traditionally, car freedom and commuting don't complement each other. But councils are taking the challenge so seriously that cycle lanes and even cycle superhighways are being planned for our major cities.

Cycling
The benefits are obvious. You could arrive at work with a rosy glow in your cheeks, not from high blood pressure being trapped in a tailback for 40 minutes, but from cycling or walking.

For the City workers out there, you have the added bonus of knowing a door to door overground route if the underground fails. Plus you may well inspire and impress your colleagues (lycra is optional). It is time to get organised, save money, get a little bit fitter and maybe feel just that little bit smug about doing 'your green bit.'
