Tip 16: Holiday Closer to Home
Investigate local breaks. Spending money closer to home will aid local economies and have a knock-on effect of improving the area. Investigate British tourist attractions – how much of Britain do you really know? Even if you only do this on the odd holiday, every little helps!
Tip 17: Investigate Travelling Abroad by Train and Boat
Flying is the most environmentally unfriendly form of travel. How often do you fly and do you need to fly every time? Check out the train and boat and make the journey part of the holiday.
Tip 18: Count your Flights
We all fly a lot more than we used to. Have a look at your lifestyle and see if you can reduce the number of times you hop on and off a short haul flight. Can you combine trips, go for longer, or if you have a second home abroad, can you to and fro less often?
Tip 19: Petrol Saving Gadgets
There are a number of fuel saving devices on the market. They are usually simple to attach. Check with a reputable dealer before you fit one though, as there has been a huge increase in the number of these available and not all of them work.
Tip 20: Step Off the Gas
Keep the accelerator about one fourth of the way down and avoid stepping on the gas if you can. This will allow the engine to function most efficiently. Sudden starts, stops and accelerations all pull petrol out of the tank. If you drive smoothly, you could save up to 5% on your gas bills.
