Tip 1: Walk and Cycle More Often
Yes, it's obvious! But half of the journeys we make are less than two miles long – the perfect length for a decent bit of exercise.
Tip 2: Make More Use of Public Transport
Apparently, some people don't use buses and trains because they don't know the timetables and routes. Time to check them out, especially for regular journeys.
Tip3: Car Share
Hitch-hiking is not as advisable as it was, since we are all more wary about personal safety. However, there are some good lift share websites out there. Type 'lift share' into your search engine to find them.
Tip 4: Take Local Action
Campaign for safer walking and cycling routes. Feedback your experiences of walking and cycling to the local government. Organise local groups to highlight the issues, lobby and be heard!
Tip 5: Find Alternatives to the Company Car
Sometimes unavoidable, but if you feel you could manage without one, suggest to your company that they give you a cash alternative. Could your company encourage car sharing or provide any other means of transport?
