How Green Are You? from Channel4.com

Sarah PughSarah Pugh devotes her life to greening up urban living and urban landscapes. She strongly believes that environmentalism begins at home and leads local communities to a greener future.

Sarah’s environmental rationale comes out of a system of agriculture called permaculture.  This is a way of farming, or gardening, that doesn’t deplete the soil of nutrients or require tonnes of chemicals and destroy natural habitats and species into the bargain.  On an urban scale, this means working with small spaces to create sustainable gardens that will encourage wildlife and produce some tasty produce at the same time.

As important as her green credentials are to her, Sarah also has a passion for community.  Sustainability, she says, hinges on re-building local communities. What’s more, she is one of the originals to realise that she didn’t need to be in the rainforest to be able to make a difference.

Putting two and two together, Sarah has worked tirelessly to involve and educate local people in designing and improving their local space.   In her local city of Bristol she has inspired communities to reconnect with each other and with nature.

She is a mover and shaker in the Bristol Permaculture Group, she is a consultant, teacher and community leader.
