- Save Power in the Shower
You use far less water when you have a shower. Choose the shower more often and save those long hot soaks for a special treat.

Dual-flush toilets save on water, but if you don't have one, then simply place a brick or large stone into you cistern. This will reduce the amount of water that you flush away (and pay for). - Stop the Leaks
Fix leaky taps as quick as you can. You can also fit flow restrictors to your taps that reduce the volume of water that runs away when you turn the tap on. You could do this in cloakroom or utility sinks where you won't mind so much.
- Wash at 30°C
No need for those boil washes anymore. Modern washing powders get your clothes just as clean at low temperatures. - Dry 'Au Naturel'
Whenever possible dry your clothes on a drying rack or a clothes line, inside or out.

Buy as much of your food as you can from local producers. Go to farmers' markets, farm shops and roadside stalls when you can.
- Eat Less Meat
Okay, so you don't have to give it up. But next time you buy a sandwich, do you really have to have chicken? Animals take far more time, space and energy to rear than plants do.

If you like fish, then check out which ones are good for you and the environment. Over-fishing is destroying ocean ecology. Cod and halibut are on such a steep decline they could go extinct within the foreseeable future.

Not always possible, but bear it in mind when you go to the supermarket. Buy as much stuff as you can that is grown in the UK. It saves on all the energy it takes to fly foods around the world.
View picture > - Away with the Readies
If you eat a lot of ready meals or ready-prepared foods, then take a night off once in a while and prepare a meal from fresh. That way you will avoid wasting all that unnecessary packaging and get a more nutritious meal.
