Giraffe works with businesses and government departments in the UK, France, the US and China to help them reduce the environmental impact of their products and services. Clients include the UK Government, Toyota, Orange, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Media, Early Leaning Centre, Sainsbury's, De La Rue and RSA (Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts).
An industrial designer with a track record of creating innovative sustainable products, Rob now specialises in 'designing out waste'. He's an expert in eco-product and packaging design and is highly experienced in bringing together teams to work on unusual eco-design projects.
Rob was a fellow of the RSA for 12 years and is project director of the RSA WEEE Man project. The WEEE Man is a seven-metre-high, three-tonne sculpture created from the electronic products that just one British person will get through in their lifetime. The aim of the project was to highlight the scale of the environmental impact we all have – our personal contribution to the fastest growing waste stream. The sculpture was launched outside London's City Hall and is now on permanent display at The Eden Project in Cornwall.
He is currently planning a new sculpture event for Trafalgar Square, which involves calculating the carbon footprints of 1000 people and then creating 1000 sculpted creatures to represent them.
Rob is also one of eight official advisors representing the UK Government. This involves advising British business on EU Law such as the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive and cleaner design, RoHS, (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances) and EUP (Energy Using Products Directive). This assistance enables companies to increase their profitability while reducing their environmental impact. Rob has advised over 200 companies.
Rob is one of the judges for The Observer Ethical Awards. He writes for the papers and has appeared on television several times.
