Day 1

A plush hotel near Gatwick. Eleven strangers meet for the first time. They've all applied to be on an eco-challenge but none of them know what it is. They get to know each other and Rob, our expert on the bus on the way to the Croydon landfill site.

After getting over the shock of arriving at the dump they set to work building a shelter, as they only have shelter provided for one night in the form of a shipping container.

Day 2

They wake up and everyone complains about how bad Jermaine's snoring was. They continue to build their shelter and continue to get know each other properly.

Rob enters the dump in a car, towing a trailer laden with a huge amount of food. He explains that this is £424 of food – what the average Briton throws away in food in a year. This is what they'll have to live on until the end of the week.

Day 3

Rob takes the group up to the working landfill site to bring them face-to-face with the scale of Britain's waste problem.

Darren decides he wants to leave as he is not enjoying the dump experience. He explains the tipping point was the landfill. The group wave Darren off and Sylvia jokingly grabs him by the ankles and begs him not to go.
