Did none of them twig in advance?
Most of the group had absolutely no idea; a lot had jumped to the conclusion that they would be flying abroad to a rainforest or a melting polar ice cap. However, a couple participants did have an inkling as there had been several stories in the newspapers when the project was first announced. So they had their suspicions but could not confirm them until they arrived at the dump itself.
