What was the casting process?
The production team started the casting process back in February. In order to maximise the impact the challenge would have, it was decided that no-one should know that the programme would involve living on a dump. This made the casting process more difficult as a considerable amount of secrecy was involved.
The production team posted on various websites and sent out flyers advertising for volunteers to take part in a unique eco-challenge. They were warned that it would be tough, uncomfortable and would involve living without creature comforts. Everyone who responded was sent a form to fill in to gauge their personality and their views on a variety of issues.
Interesting applicants were invited to meet members of the production team in a series of casting sessions around the country. The best 30 applicants were then invited to London to meet the series producer and executive producer, and to be vetted by a psychologist to ensure they were suited to the challenge.
