- Bioethanol is made by breaking down the cellulose, sugars and starches in plants, then fermenting them to make alcohol, in a similar process to the manufacture of wine and beer.
- Biodiesel is made from any vegetable oil or animal fat such as tallow or waste grease, using a process called esterification.
