Wife Swap
Sandra's household philosophy
I do everything in this house – no one else lifts a finger! Bruce spends most of the day in front of the TV or down the pub. As a fulltime housewife the house can feel lonely as I spend a large portion of the day on my own. Bruce asked me to give up running my own hair dressing salon 3 years ago so I feel like I’m in limbo.

Since leaving Coronation Street Bruce has been difficult to motivate and the only time he shows any get up and go is when he gets up from watching the TV and goes to the pub!

There are no strict routines in our house - I like things to look tidy but I am not obsessed with cleanliness. Bruce is bone idle so it’s easier to do things myself rather than trying to get him to do anything. He doesn’t even know how to use the washing machine. I spend the majority of my days in the house trying to find things to keep me occupied - this usually this involves clearing up after Bruce and our 15 year old granddaughter Sophie, who lives with us Monday to Friday. As she’s not our daughter we tend to let her do her own thing quite a bit and are very relaxed about bedtimes and discipline generally.

We are pretty relaxed about most things in life but I do worry about Bruce’s unhealthy lifestyle. Unfortunately I know from many years of trying that there is no point trying to get Bruce to change as he won’t listen. He is very set in his ways and would rather smoke his 40 cigarettes a day than eat properly. When he does eat he rarely strays away from his favourite meals – egg and chips, shepherds pie and his beloved boiled bacon ribs and white cabbage.

Me and Sophie often eat together in the evening but Bruce hardly ever joins us as he eats when he gets back from the pub. After 28 years together we aren’t very romantic. Bruce doesn’t even know when my birthday or our anniversary is. We do very little together as a couple and when we do its not glamorous - it usually involves going down to the pub! Although he gets recognised a lot Bruce is not at all starry and hates the whole celebrity culture which comes with his job.

I do a lot in the house and a lot for Bruce. Sometimes I feel underappreciated so it will be interesting to see how he copes without me!

Sandra's rules

1. You depend on too many people to run this house. From now on Nilda and Sinitta’s mum are on strike, and we will run this house together.

2. Sinitta is obsessed with her fitness regime and I have not seen the children leave the house. We will now exercise the children and let them run off some steam in the fresh air.

3. When I entered your home I did not even know you had children. From now on the children will display their artwork around the entire house.
