Wife Swap
Pete Burns' household philosophy

Pete Burns
I'm high maintenance and I know it. Michael knew when we got together that he'd have to give everything up for me - and he did.

He gave up his job and now he spends 24/7 keeping me happy - he's everything I have waited for in a partner and I love him to death. We are literally together all day, every day - and we love it. Being apart for this swap will be the longest time we've ever been apart, and I'm dreading it.

Michael's busy, it's a full-time job looking after me. He's my manager as well as my husband, and he keeps me sane and happy in a world which often misunderstands me.

Sometimes when I leave the house, people shout abuse at me - which is awful. So being at home with Michael is our sanctuary where we are both fulfilled by each other.

As well as setting up all my media interviews and appointments, Michael takes care of the flat. He's much more house-proud than I am - all I care about is how I look, I'd rather have a nice face than a nice house.

I pride myself on being an individual - there is literally no one like me. No one can put me in a category, I'm a one-off and I have created my body to suit my personality.

Michael has accepted the way I am, and completely supports me. He doesn't mind that I absolutely need an hour and a half to get ready in the morning - he cleans the flat, makes calls, sets up appointments.

There are no traditional roles here - you can't say that he's the wife or that I am, we have created our relationship ourselves.

We are completely unconventional - I am creative, spontaneous and utterly myself. My world starts with me - no one tells me what to do.

Pete's rules

1. Razor, from now on, you take care of the baby, which includes changing the nappy, the housework and scooping up the dog crap. And I will be checking to see if it's up to scratch!

2. Michael and I write each other poems and give each other presents, and I want you to do the same. I want you to take me out for a romantic meal, to show me that I am appreciated.

3. For the next two days you are banned from the pub, and that is non-negotiable.
