Debs and Jan swap places
Jan Melia, anti-traditional routine and convention, swaps places with Debs Collard, who believes in financial success and strict timetables. Jan and Oli Melia are proudly unconventional: they used to live in a van and travel round the country. Even though they've settled in Nottingham for the time being, their values remain as alternative as their lifestyle.
Jan (pictured right) and Oli, 41, treat their sons Dino (15), Finn (13), and Albie (10) as equals. They all negotiate the way they live and the only things that are banned in the Melia home are rules and routine.
Debs Collard, 34, lives in a beautifully decorated period house in rural Hampshire; husband Rob, 37, has worked hard in the traditional breadwinner role to build up a successful business and afford his family the "nice things in life".
And those nice things include a Mercedes sports jeep for his wife's birthday, private education for his sons Ricky (9) and Jordan (5), and wardrobes of clothes for them all. How does Debs (pictured left), who's used to a man providing all for her, react to a man who works flexible, freelance hours so he can spend his days caring for his kids? And can Jan convince Rob that he should be able to live in a mess while having "creative play" with his two sons?
