Kerry

Name: Kerry
Age: 35
Occupation: Dance teacher

Have you worked in camps before?
No, I never worked in camps, but I've always worked in the entertainment industry.

Would you consider taking a job in a camp?
It was fun for two weeks, but I don't think I'd do it full time – the hours are too long.

What was the best thing about working on the camp? And the worst?
The best thing was making friends, getting to know the campers, socialising and organising. The worst thing was the food – it was awful.

Do you like the holidaymakers on the whole?
Yes, I loved them.

How do you like to spend your time off work?
I don't get much of it – but I socialise, meet friends, the usual.

When you go on holiday what do you like to do?
I love joining in competitions. I like holiday camps.

What's the main difference between now and the 1960s?
The hours of rising and resting – up at 6.30am and bed at 10.45pm. Everything was very regimented and timetabled – not so relaxed as today.

What was the best thing about the 60s? And the worst?
The donkey derby was the best thing, I've never laughed so much. The worst was saying goodbye to everyone.

What's got better today? And what's got worse?
The accommodation is better – all the mod cons and the food, of course. Activities and entertainment have got worse, narrower really. There are less competitions and fun-time activities today.

Would you rather work in a 60s camp or a modern camp?
1960s definitely!
