Have you worked in camps before?
I was a Redcoat at Butlins from 1989 to 1990. It was my first proper job!
What attracted you to working in camps?
From the age of six, I used to go to Butlins every year with my family. I always wanted to be a Redcoat since then.
What was the best thing about working on the camps? And the worst?
The best thing was the whole fun of it, and meeting all the people – at the one I worked in there were 12,000 new guests a week, and 42 Redcoats. So that's a lot of new people to meet! The worst thing was the long hours.
Do you like the holidaymakers on the whole?
The families are great, they're the best. It's a family industry really. The single sex stag weekends and hen weekends are the most difficult to deal with.
How do you like to spend your time off work?
I'm a mad rugby fan. I like to go to shows too. And just meet up with friends.
When you go on holiday what do you like to do?
I haven't been away for eight years – I'm frightened of flying. I normally have a bit of a busman's holiday and go to London to see the shows in my time off.
What's the main difference between now and the 1960s?
Aside from the obvious fashions and all that, you could smoke with the campers in the 60s. And you could drink on duty. Today everything is more restricted and regulated.
What was the best thing about the 60s? And the worst?
The best thing was the fashions, the music, the whole atmosphere really and the way everyone joined in everything. The worst was the food.
What's got better today? And what's got worse?
Food and facilities have got better. But people don't join in things today, we are too self-conscious, we just expect to sit and watch. And people can't seem to let themselves go like they used to.
Would you rather work in a 60s camp or a modern camp?
Back in the 60s!
