NEWSDESK
VEE-TALENT
This week Charlie Swinbourne reviewed the hit stage musical, The Producers. There are Stagetext performances of the show on 21 and 22 June.
The Producers is the West End version of a massive Broadway
hit, which in turn was based on Mel Brooks' 1968 film.
The plot revolves around an attempt to con old ladies into investing in their
play, Springtime for Hitler. The play is in the worst possible taste
and the producers are sure it will flop, leaving them to pocket the money raised,
which is far more than they needed to produce the show …
'One negative thing was that there were a lot jokes about minority groups like
old people, gay people and Jewish people,' Charlie says. 'For me it wasn't a
problem because I knew it was just a big joke, but for some people it might
be.'
So what was Charlie's verdict? 'I would recommend it to everyone – I really
loved it,' he says. 'It's really funny and witty, and very well written, and
there are lots of beautiful women dancing.'
What more could you want?
The Producers is at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, Catherine Street,
London WC2B 5JF. For more information check out the official
website.
