This week Nikki got brushed up to talk
to Ben Price, who plays Conrad Gates in Footballers' Wives.
Not bashful:
Ben Price
It's not a part for a bashful actor. '[Conrad] spends most of his time
with his clothes off,' Ben admits. 'There's a lot of my bum in the programme
– sometimes a bit too much. My mum comments on it sometimes.'
But does Ben like Conrad's taste in clothes – when he's wearing
any? 'No, not at all,' he says. 'The costume designer picks them for me
because I just can't bear to pick them. I don't know how anyone would
ever wear those clothes.'
What about his complicated love-life, with two women and a man on the
go? 'Well, that wouldn't be my idea,' Ben says, laughing. 'I'm married
and I just couldn't keep up with it all. I don't really agree too much
with his social politics. I don't know how he does it! I don't know how
they put up with him! I don't know why they just don't throw him out.
But the girls and the boy seem to like him.'
Sadly, Conrad's days in the show are numbered. 'This is the end of Conrad
Gates,' Ben says. 'I will hang the hair up and the suits, leave my wives
and walk off into the distance. I think I've done as much as I can do.'
Appropriately enough, however, Conrad will go out with a bang. 'The way
I go from the programme is pretty explosive,' Ben confides – but
he wouldn't reveal any more. Not really like Conrad at all then.
