VEE-TALENT
Paul Lynch's favourite sign is 'safe' or 'peace'.
'When I was 11, I got very involved in the black community through
the YMCA,' says Paul, 40, from Wolverhampton. 'I played football and other sports.
The others had strong Jamaican accents and I was a BSL user. In those days,
when I met deaf people, I would say "Give me five!", but language
has changed since then. I now use "safe", which means "peace".
When I go into a pub to meet my deaf friends, I greet them, catch up with conversation,
and then, at the end of the evening, I sign "safe" to everyone.'
If you'd like to appear on VEE-TV demonstrating your favourite sign, e-mail
us saying, in no more than 200 words, what your sign would be and why. We
also need to know your name, age, gender, postal address, textphone/mobile number.
We'd also like everyone to vote for
their favourite sign out of all those that appear in this year's series. We're
currently lining up a prize for the person whose sign is most popular!
