A useful introduction to BSL and an excellent account of the history of sign language and the deaf community.

Buddhas in Disguise: Deaf people of Nepal by Irene Taylor and Tom Schlegel (Dawn Sign Press, 1997)
Irene Taylor spent three years living with deaf people in Nepal. Illustrated with many photographs, this book is a portrayal of their life, environment and culture.
