James Merry: Pub
Conversation
James Merry's film
Pub Conversation was made in 1998 while he was studying at the
Surrey Institute of Art and Design. 'It's based on my own personal frustration
at being a partially deaf person,' says James. 'I often find that I get
socially excluded because of my inability to take part in group conversations.'
James is currently
working on his graduation film at the RCA, which will be a five-minute
animation based on the Bluebeard fairy-tale. It will be entirely made
on a computer using a combination of 2D and 3D graphics. The characters
will be drawn in 2D and then composited into a 3D space.
'I'm interested in
making films in a variety of different ways and formats,' James told VEE-TV.
'Computer animation is particularly interesting because it allows me to
bring a diverse range of ideas and media together very quickly and easily.'
