Ayesha Azfar: Listening but not Hearing (aka Rubber)

Ayesha Azfar – Ash – is 23 and from the Rossendale Valley in Lancashire. 'And that makes me a Lancashire hotpot!' Ash told VEE-TV. 'I'm scriptwriting and presenting for my local hospital radio at the moment, as well as working with a local theatre company in small acting parts.'

Listening but Not Hearing is Ash's first film, 'But definitely not my last!' she says. 'I have always been into films, but my interest in making them began when I did my degree in writing and film and TV studies.

'I wanted to make my Pulse film because I wanted to shock people into realising that the deaf are disabled more by attitudes towards them than by their disability. I also wanted to encourage deaf women in particular to have courage to believe in themselves.'
