Laos From: Fiona (backpackers@vee-tv.com) To: VEE-TV Subject: Laos Hi all Here we are in Laos, a poorer country than Thailand. There are loads of Buddhist monks wearing bright orange costumes and I'm starting to get used to seeing them all the time cos they are everywhere! Blimey, where am I? I was so ill in Chiang Mai and stayed behind for a few days. It was nice relaxing while the others came back moaning how hard it was and how their bodies were stiff all over from walking up the hills!! Well, I plan to go next time when I am feeling better! After that we went to Chiang Khong by travelling up the Mekong River and then went by boat to Laos. We expected a bigger and better boat. It was like a narrow boat but covered all over and there were about 70 people inside. We suffered inside for 10 hours a day for two days with aching muscles and no room to move and we had to hold our wee wee too! Blimey! But it was a worthwhile experience! We stopped in Luang Prabang. It was very quiet with not many things to do there except buy some cool souvenirs. After that we decided to go to Vientiane but the bus journey was even worse cos it was overcrowded. We were stuck in the same place with no room to stretch our legs cos there were loads of boxes on the floor and also people sitting on plastic chairs in the aisles. In the end I thought: at least I have been there but not again please. I dare not think what transport is like in Vietnam! We are in Vientiane for a few days, then we are off by plane to Hanoi. I'm starting to worry about food there cos I have heard so many food disaster stories. Oh dear, I might end up eating rice and noodles and vegetables only! We can't find good bars and nightclubs we miss Wolverhampton, that is how sad we are, sob sob! We did go to some nightclubs. They were so cheesy but at least we have been there! That is it Keep smiling Love fifi xxxxxxxxxx From: Julian (backpackers@vee-tv.com) To: VEE-TV Subject: Story time Hello everyone! It's me Julian again to tell you my boring story about my travelling! Yep I hope you all are good children and will be happy to read my storytelling! Ready? Well, I am in Laos! I hope you know where it is! If you are not that good at geography, Laos is the middle between Thailand and Vietnam! Got it? (Only kidding!) Laos is a very poor country and I admit I was shocked to see its condition after visiting rich and well-developed Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore! But, strangely, the food in Laos is much, much better tasting than in Thailand! I really appreciate the food in Laos and I have to make the most of it before arriving in Vietnam because they have horrible food! I have heard many stories about Vietnamese food. Vietnam is also a very poor country so if we order beef we will get dog meat mixed with it to make it cheaper but it will make us ill. That means we will be temporary vegetarians while we're in Vietnam! The interesting part about Laos is the money. One pound sterling = 12,000 kips, and that means we have lllllloooaaaddddds of cash! We were confused when we received a bill for 30,000 kips and said 'Oh no, it's so expensive' but in the end we worked out it only costs £2.50! But we still find it too expensive! That's all for today. Miss you all and take care! Julian |
