Troy

Troy

Troy was a bright, charismatic student, very talented at basketball. He wanted to do well in the sport he loved, but his deafness threatened to hold him back. Troy had a tendency to play Casanova in the past, but have circumstances how conspired to make him grow up?

'Troy is interesting to me because he has faced many dilemmas,' says David Ellington, who plays the part. In RUSH 4, Troy has recovered from his grief at the death of his daughter, Kara, and is setting about his life in a positive way. But once again, he has to face some unexpected issues. 'I think that the script for RUSH 4 is completely different from the previous ones,' David says. 'It is a new format, with a really exciting structure.'

David was born in Bristol, where he still lives, and educated at Burwood Park School in Surrey. His first acting experience was in the deaf festival at the Swan Theatre in 1997.

His other theatre and TV/film credits include Diary of an Action Man (Graeae), The Queen's New English (a deaf cyber pop video – the original version), Chronic Embarrassment (PULSE), Reservoir Wolves (Remark!), Talk (Disability Rights Commission), The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (BBC), Holby City (BBC) and DEF (Salad Films). He recently won Best Actor for Othello in the Deaf Oscars.

Last year David was one of the organisers of the first Vision Sign Film Festival at the Watershed in Bristol. He has now set up VS1, a small arts organisation that aims to encourage young deaf people in the south-west region to get involved in experimental film-making, theatre and performance.
