Episode 1

Two years have passed since we last saw Adam, Kelly, Maya, Troy, Mel and Nicky as they left the funeral of little Kara – Adam's niece and Troy's daughter. It was a moment that tested their friendship. Since then, much has changed.

Adam has been travelling the world in his camper van. As he reads through his letters and postcards, we catch up with what's been happening to the group.

Mel writes that she is OK. She seems to have a wealthy older man to keep her company. Maya and Kelly have jobs in the same hospital. Maya is looking for romance through dating websites. Troy writes of a very big change in his life: Errol has bought a new nightclub – which he has named after Kara – and has made Troy the manager.

Back in the present, Troy goes to the local gym to visit Nicky, whom he hasn't seen for a while. It turns out that Nicky's life has changed dramatically. Casey has finally caught up with him. As Casey sees it, Nicky and his brother Vince wrecked his business deals and stole his money. As a way of getting Nicky to pay back the debt, he takes him on as a boxer. Nicky will train with him, then deliberately lose a few matches so no one rates him. Then one day, he'll take everyone by surprise – everyone except Casey, that is, who will have staked serious money on Nicky to win. The big fight is now approaching.

Nicky also has a new girlfriend, Teresa, and Troy is shocked to find out not only that they are getting married, but also that Teresa is pregnant. Troy recognises Teresa. She was one of a group of girls he met in a nightclub recently, and he remembers the shock of overhearing their racist conversation. Also, Teresa was with another man. Teresa seems shallow and extravagant and seems to have Nicky exactly where she wants him.

Troy tells Nicky about a tribute night at the club he's organised in memory of Kara. Nicky is angry because it clashes with his big fight. Troy also decides to tell Nicky what he knows about Teresa, including the fact that he saw her with another man. But Nicky won't accept it, and it only renews his resentment at the way Troy has put him down in the past.

On the night of Kara's tribute and Nicky's big fight, Troy pops out of the club to go down to see Nicky. Nicky has won. Troy tries to congratulate him – but Nicky is furious that Troy wasn't there for the fight itself and is still angry about what he said about Teresa. Troy stands by his words, and Nicky flies into a rage and squares up to fight his friend …
