Bim Ajadi: Welcome to Paradise

Bim Ajadi's first film for PULSE, Queen's New English, was a pop video. Since then Bim has edited and directed two more pop videos, one of which was performed by people with learning disability. He has also edited and directed a short film called Skye and was involved in editing videos for a production company.

Welcome to Paradise is a black comedy about a deaf jogger whose regular trip around the park takes an unexpected turn. 'I got the idea while I was at the gym on a treadmill!' Bim told VEE-TV. 'I also wanted to portray what life could be like after death. I have always wondered about life after death. I believe that someone in an afterlife would be able to understand everyone, whatever the language and different communication methods, so there would be no communication barriers. I used three different colours to represent the time of the events: black-and-white flashback to represent when the jogger was alive, low colour grade to represent his experience just after death and vibrant colour to represent his experience as a dead man.

This is the first time Bim has written a script, and he says the scriptwriting was the biggest challenge – apart from the weather!

And what does Bim plan to do in the future? 'Make more films,' he says. 'I'd like to go back to making pop videos. Out of all the films I've made, making pop videos remains my passion, as I'm a music lover.'
