The VEE-TV presenters and researchers put themselves in the hot seat.
Ahmed Mudawi
What are your favourite and least favourite parts of working for VEE-TV?
Fave: visiting the internet cafés and meeting new people. Least
fave: getting up early in the morning like 6.30am!
What are your favourite things about the show itself?
Discussion and debate, PULSE and RUSH.
What do you think is the most important issue facing the Deaf community
at the moment?
We need more deaf people involved in sports, because there is no pride
in playing for Great Britain.
Tell us a little about your education.
Deaf school, then deaf college and hearing college for studying a photography
course. I enjoyed sign language and I didn't like English.
Have you always wanted to work in the media? What other media jobs/activities
have you been involved in?
Yes I have. I was a cameraman on See Hear for a video diary with
the presenter about employment services.
What advice would you give to young deaf people interested in working
in the media?
You can do it! Don't think deaf people can't!
Who's your hero or biggest influence?
Wild Zappers a group of US black deaf signers to songs.
Who's your biggest fan?
My grandmother!
What do you do when you're not working for VEE-TV for money and
pleasure?
I'm working as an RNID support worker in north-west London. For pleasure,
I travel around London on my folder bike. It's quicker than waiting for
the bus and makes life easier too.
Can you recommend something that you really enjoyed recently book,
show, film, website, whatever?
I saw a short Australian film called I Love U, with deaf actors
and actresses and a hearing crew. It was awesome.
What's your perfect day?
I would love to spend a day dancing with a bunch of people on the beach.
There would be salsa music, and moonlight in the evening.
