Living on a student's budget

Elizabeth gives some tips on how students can make their paltry financial resources go a bit further.

  • Eat beans on toast every day – you'll save a fortune to spend on going out clubbing and pubbing.

  • Borrow money from your parents – you'll never have to pay it back.

  • When you go to the pub, flirt with all the men. If you're lucky, they'll buy you drinks. If that fails, drink water.

  • Save money on taxis – wear flat shoes and walk everywhere.

  • If all else fails, simply rob a bank!

Up and out in 10

Gavin shares his recipe for getting up and out of the house in 10 minutes:

  • Set up more than one alarm to shake you up, just in case one breaks down.

  • Prepare your clothes the night before – as a fireman does.

  • Leave water in the basin the night before and have your toothpaste ready on your toothbrush.

  • Slide down the banister, collecting your jumper, coat and scarf all in one go.

  • Prepare your toast and coffee so you can grab it and go as you leave.
