Senses of Direction is based on one of Ayesha's poems. She had been thinking about turning the poem into a film, so when PULSE got in touch she jumped at the opportunity.
Moody and atmospheric, without a straightforward narrative, the film is about driving around at night in a contemplative mood. Its visual inspiration was Ayesha's local area the places she often drives through.
Not everything went smoothly on the shoot Ayesha ended up starring in the film herself when the actors dropped out the night before! 'It's very difficult making a low-budget film, as you can't pay the actors,' she says. But Ayesha thinks it may have turned out for the best, because the film ended up with a more personal feel.
Ayesha says she would like to make a follow-up to Senses of Direction, or make other films based on poems. 'I would love to carry on film-making once I have recovered from this one!' she says. 'I had a lot more confidence now, and I know what to expect, which makes it easier.'
