Elizabeth Young

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

Rice Krispies cereal. Nowt exciting!

What do you do when you're not doing VEE-TV?

Am currently studying psychology and educational development at Nottingham Trent Uni.

What do you like most about VEE-TV?

RUSH, and the fact that the prog is in BSL.

Have you always wanted to work in the media?

No, not really. I like doing it sometimes, but definitely not as my permanent job. Too stressful and competitive!

How did you get started?

I was asked to be in Channel 4's The Vibe a few years ago.

What do you think is the most important issue facing the Deaf community at the moment?

Education. A lot of young people are brought up using the oral method, and being sent to mainstream school, they don't really have a chance to see what the Deaf community is like, and develop/know their identity.

What are your ambitions?

To work in the Deaf community, especially with children. Definitely linked with education but not being a teacher!

Can you recommend something that you really enjoyed recently – book, show, film, website, whatever?

I'm terrible with the names of films but my all-time favourite book is Trust Me by Lesley Pearse. She is a fantastic writer – so moving. Her other books are also brill.

What's your perfect day?

When it's sunny and warm, with everything going my way – and especially when shopping and finding loads of clothes I like (and having the money to buy them with!).
